We took photos of the architecture in this small town, spotting some large Maine homes built early 19th century. Brooks has a very memorable small bridge in town which had flower boxes full of blooming flowers - with American Flags stuck in them too, of course!

Avalon Village in Hampden, Maine offers a lovely walk along steep banks looking down on the Penobscot River. Residents here reported enjoying sitting outside and watching the Bald eagles fly up and down the river. So Bart scouted it first and then took me for a return visit and walk on the nice trail. We didn't spy any eagles, however a beautiful feather was laying on the ground. I photographed it and then returned to the forest for safe keeping.

I can sit in my back yard often and watch one particular Common Loon. She comes around if the wind picks up from the south on the deck side. Here in the back cove, she is protected, and can sit motionless for long periods of time.

Again, a Common Loon pair is taking me away from any plans I had for the morning. These two show up around 10ish every day . . . and fish the front cove. I lose all track of time when they show up. Bauer, my granddoggie is with us for the weekend and keeping me company.

I am taking a photo of a cottage painted in salmon, aqua and a sea green. An appealing, sweet little bungalow beckons me to take a seat on the porch and rock the rest of the lovely June day away.

Bayside is a community not even known by some Maineacs. This home is white unlike the typical home here. Bayside refers to its location on a hill rolling down to the Penobscot Bay, with full ocean views. Many, many cottages in crisscrossing streets are packed into a couple of blocks - tiny with porches, brightly painted in more than two colors, labeled quaint, and with clever names! Most have gardens or pot gardens adding more color. Bayside is a photographers dream - ocean, colors everywhere, all sized cottages, a yacht club and more signage.

Blue Hole is a lovely fresh water pond which every one has stopped to visit - or plans to visit soon. We stop there passing through driving down the Keys. It's a photo op for the resident alligators, Ospreys, turtles, Anhingas and what else comes before us. Here we are walking on a trail near the pond's overlook, hoping to spot a passing eagle.

Bart mapped out another adventure to see the biggest dam in Maine WITH eagles on the lake, named Lake Harris. The views were breathtaking as we drove further west, making our way to Harris. I took lots of photos on this trip.

We out driving around Rt 15 area "chasing" eagles, stopping at a couple of favorite and pretty spots we revisit each summah. I am pictured here at the boat ramp in Orrington. There were diamonds on the water this afternoon, but eagles were not sighted.

I am walking behind Bart, so that set me up for his quick turn around and SNAP, he got me again. There was quite a breeze with sun so great walking weather. We walked along the main road which was named, Main Street. Hmmmm...

  • Duck Trap, Lincolnville Beach, Maine
Upon arriving in Duck Trap we always turn down Howe Point. This road leads to a tiny little strip of land on the Bay, where it meets Duck Trap River. This inlet cove adds to the water views. We see Mallard ducks, Common loons, adults kayaking and kids jumping off the bridge we crossed back up on Rt.1. We saw eagles this day as we usually do in this vicinity.

I am tracking and focusing in on an Osprey on today's stop at Duck Trap recreation area on the Bay. It's quite windy by now, although when we left home hours earlier we forgot to check the weather report. That's why we carry extra shoes, socks, pants, jackets and hats in the Lincoln's trunk!

We love to sit at Caroline's in Key West and have drinks and a bite to eat AND watch people, looking for Key West characters. Sometimes we spot them . . . but here I am photographing some very handsome dogs on leashes, walking their owners!

Bart and I headed out to view the nest on Eagle Island, as we call it. Bart is rowing us and I am Queen Cleopatra with Princess Nala. We are doggiesitting Nala, again loving it, for the weekend. It was so hot that we tied up so Nala could take a swim! I am taking advantage of photo op with a couple of Common loons very close to us.

Bart is grieving because there isn't an eagle - adult or juvenile - in sight on this ride. Oh well, I'm getting some great landscape shots and he's getting ... tired of rowing!

  • Fort Zachary State Park, Key West FL
Fort Zachary has a nice moat surrounding it, with trees, where ducks, herons and egrets visit or live. It's a lovely habitat for a several pairs of Green-winged Teals and a tall American Egret. Blue and Great White Herons have been photographed there by us on several visits. Today I am trying to photograph diving Grebes and bobbing American Coots. Both dive and move so quickly that most shots get thrashed. One takes 100 photos to get one awesome one, typically! Bart calls the best ones his "Pulitzers".

We take a twenty minute walk from our door to the Marriot to their boardwalk. There we have viewed snakes, Nurse sharks, Needlelfish, Barracudas, and Horseshoe crabs at low tide. In the Mangroves, I spy herons, egrets and I spy to photograph. In this picture we have continued on beyond that stop, walking on the Gulf side of Key West for another twenty minutes to Cow Channel where habitat provides more photo ops. Bart is constantly scanning the sky for eagles or hawks as well as watching for water birds with me.

We have driven a long way from Mags Lane to find the largest dam in Maine, Harris Lake. It's a beautiful day and location with wonderful rapids, waterfalls, and other landscapes to photograph. The several long sections of stairs leading to the water's edge are worth a snapshot or two as well.

I am almost back to our boat, the Plus Ultra, after many hours of walking. I bought a pair of shorts at Beals, picked up a great dried palm branch with attached coconuts, and can't wait to download my photos from the day. I got some great shots of Ibis, adults and juveniles.

Bart has scouted out another dam, hoping that eagles will be nearby. This plant in Roanoke Rapids didn't have open views of the water for visitors, so we looked for eagles in between the tree tops.
